finally made it to sunset!
FINALLY!! we made it to sunset in Cavendish PEI. I didn't think we were gonna make it this year the weather hasn't been great for camping but it's like they say about snowblowers: you won't get enough snow to use it if you buy one same must be for campers lol! anyway, we saw the weather for Aug 18-21 to be awesome so me jetting outta town so fast! we had an awesome stay (as always) the campground hasn't changed a bit which I like. the showers are still free, the spots are still huge and the misquotes are still hungry, our first day we all looked as though we had chicken pox due to bug bites but we coped. the heated pool helped and the trolley trip to Cavendish beach was a hoot(which we ALL loved), the board walk was as busy as always (where else can you camp and within 5 mins from your site buy a fresh coffee, a huge ice cream, maybe a sundress, some weird novelty item that's marked up 500%, do your laundry and get a tattoo???) AHH Sunset you haven't disappointed us yet! please don't!as always you get a 10 out of 10...would have been an 11 but had to deduct 1 point for the darn mosquitoes!!!!
also near Kentville N.S.
we took the boys one day to a zoo about an half hour from the campground. it is called Oaklawn farm zoo. what a nice place! the animals were clean and looked happy (for zoo animals) it was nice to see more trees and less concrete. and Dexter just loved the $1 pony ride. there were barn cats roaming around and their Eagles weren't in a pen (they had wing damage and couldn't fly but still it was awesome) they also had an albino peacock-NEAT! I would definitely recommend this zoo to anyone. there's a large petting area, there are spots to feed the deer, ducks and other birds. We got to pet a llama! it was just laying out in one of the walking areas just chillin' For what it looked like on the outside ( no so nice not really big) and the traveling it took to get there (off an bumpy road that looked like it lead to no where) it was a complete surprise and blast! hope to go back there next year when we hit South Mountain campground again.
Kentville trip :-)
well I have to say our trip to Kentville N.S. was the best spot ever! Hubby wants to move there lol! we stayed at South mountain park family camping and RV resort. It was perfect! the weather was good 2 days hot sun (and sun burns) 3 days of light rain and rolling thunderstorms then 2 more days of hot sun. The campground had so much to do for the kids too bad Cleese wasn't older (15 months is a little young to enjoy most of the activities) but Dexter our 3 year old was in heaven. They had a jump blister, 2 pools (Olympic size and wading) a 100 foot slip and slide, "wagon rides" on a truck, 2 playgrounds, ducks to feed, arcade games (rainy days weren't so bad), not to mention a quick drive to town for those moments when you just really need to get a Tim Horton's coffee ;-) The overall of it I'd rate an 11 out of 10! we had such a great time. the camp ground was clean, quiet in the evenings, the facilities were very clean and well kept. there was a nice tree on every lot which were close together but still felt comfy. the mosquitoes were few and far between which was a blessing! and the last day of our trip was probably the best, the campers sell 50/50 tickets on Fridays and Saturdays and the money that gets raised goes to fund special events for the park. So the Saturday before we left (we check out on Sunday) they had a live band and free hot dogs for the whole campground for 3 hours. it was awesome! it was a super hot sunny day, the band let some local kids play in between sets (they were better then the band haha) and there was enough going on that Dex sat there at the community fire pit for 3 hours while the music was being played...talk about an easy Saturday afternoon.
this place was the best we're looking into a seasonal spot there for next year ;-)

Camping withdrawl!
The weather hasn't been too cooperative with the whole camping experience so far this summer. Things are looking good for this weekend but money is tight so we'll be heading to the cheapest spot ever...mom and dad's :-) we're actually going to be setting up our pool there this year so it'll be nice to get that going so it can warm up to a bearable temperature. So far on the list of where to camp or not it's been easy testing...we haven't gone very many places yet! but hey it's only the 1st weekend in July still got lots more coming our way!

"dry" spell
HA! "dry" spell...there's an understatement for ya! and it's more like a "wet spell". It rained a lot this weekend so we didn't go camping like we had originally planned. We haven't gone "officially" camping since June 3rd. We wanted to go to PEI to visit our favorite spot as of yet, SUNSET CAMPGROUND. But we also took into thought about our big trip that's planned for Kentville at the end of next month so we're gonna lay low and camp locally and "cheaply" to safe up for Kentville. We'll be a Murray's beach again in the near future I can see it! As long as the horrible weather goes away...sunny weeks and rainy weekends are NOT the way to enjoy summer, tent trailer or not! :-/

trip 3...June 10-12 MOM & DAD's????
This trip was fun and more relaxing then I thought it'd be during the day but night was a different story. My youngest would not sleep he was awake both nights from 1:30am till 5am..we were not happy campers. It was his first time trying to sleep without a bottle not the right time to do that but I ran out of playtex liners for his bottles and forgot to buy more. Anyways, we had decided to make a garden at my parents house his year so we decide to camp on their acre+ lot of land and work the garden. The days were busy and full of activities so the boys were busy and had a blast but the nights were filled with toddler screaming and crying...the second night I got up and actually gave him a left over pancake and he quieted and fell asleep after he ate...note to self feed him before bed when he plays as hard as he did. Overall, I'd give the trip a 9, the mosquitoes and black flies were too bad to make me wanna live there (again) but we'll be going back. Best part was we left the trailer there to pick up for when we want to. oh p.s. the rates were cheap and the bathroom clean and the site was spacious and the playground (swingset) was perfect! ;-)
camping trip #2 a.k.a "crap" :-(
This trip we were not as fortunate as going to Murray's beach. We thought we'd try somewhere new to us. I spent a couple of hours looking for places within a 50 mile radius of Moncton N.B. finally feel upon a website that looked promising...rule #1 NEVER believe the website *shudder
We called Three bears family campground and reserved a spot they asked the size of our trailer (should have told them about the slide and the screened in room with awning). When we got there the spot was the smallest spot we'd ever seen and there were 3 people trying to put their trailers and tent trailers in the adjacent sites: not good! like trying to get food at the free all you can eat buffet when all the dieters are on strike lol! The sites were smallish and very closed together. About 80% or more of the trailers are seasonal campers who are there all the time so the better spots are taken. Anyways, we got them to give us a bigger spot which we thought was great until night rolled around...we had very loud neighbors who talked and shouted until 3:45AM!! ugg! luckily our kids slept through it but we didn't, and the same thing for the next night too but this time my youngest didn't sleep through it all.
We stayed they June 3-5. Check out time was 1pm and we were home before their office even opened to check out. There were a lot of things we didn't like about this place, the pools had no water, the swings were "swingless" until lunchtime Saturday, there was only 1 functioning bathroom in the park about a 7 minute walk from us, the other one near us was closed until after supper on Saturday. It was like they opened the park a day early. My husband said the men's washroom was absolutely disgusting. We decided we won't be going back there. The nicest thing about the place was the free showers but at almost $34 per night, I'd rather stay home. This place on my scale gets a 1 out of 10 but if you would have asked me the day we got home I'd have said minus infinity or something ridiculous like that.

First trip of 2011 : Murray's beach provincial park
This was a "no brainer" to go here for our first trip of the year and with the trailer. We know this place, we've camper here a ton of times and it's close enough to home incase something goes wrong. It was the May long weekend and we were at Murray's Beach. The site they gave us was perfect, could have been closer to the bathroom (did a lot of trips with the 3 yr old) but I didn't ask so they aren't to blame. The weather was crappy we had a nice day Friday then Saturday was SOOO COLD and rainy, Sunday was sunny but only about 12 degrees Celsius and windy and Monday we packed up early and came home (turned out to be a nice day but the baby had caught a chill from Saturday's icky weather and was in no way tolerable, lol! For this trip I'd rate it a 8. We could have had nicer weather (no one's fault), the bathrooms we a little walk but very clean and always stocked, the showers cost 25 cents for hot water that gets about 4 minutes or so. I use 50 cents and wait to run out of hot water. Only had 1 incident when there were 3 girls "playing in the shower" while I was waiting to bathe the 3yr old so I could get him to bed: needless to say I was a little irritated. The washers and dryers came in handy after the cold damp Saturday. It was a $1 for each. We had a powered site no water and it was $24 something (under $25) VERY reasonable. The playground area was clean and in great working order. The beach was perfect but too cold to truly enjoy. That is one thing if you decide to try Murray's Beach, the beach will NOT disappoint! it's beautiful and on a clear day you can see the bridge to PEI in the distance. We will definitely go back but we'll wait for warmer weather.
Our background
So you know I am the mother of 2 young boys (1 and 3yr old) and been married to my awesome hubby for 7 years. He's originally the camper out of us I had only ever gone once before but we went camping for a week for our honeymoon and I've been converted :-)
we originally had a dome tent that fit our air mattress and us then we gradually extended our gear to a smaller extra tent to house the cooler and other gear then we got a bigger tent (4 room) we had baby number 1 by this time and found out number 2 was on the way. We camped in the 4 room tent for 2 years then decided this year enough ground sleeping, we got ourselves a tent trailer. It's a 12 foot with a sliding dinette for extra room. we have been converted from tenters to tent trailer-ers...haha! we love the convenience of a mini fridge, power outlets, an indoor table, storage space, heated mattresses and did I mention the propane furnace!?! yup! you'll probably never find me in a tent again, and if I am there I'm drunk and got lost point me in the direction of my tent trailer!

Why haven't I thought of this sooner!?!?
while having a chat with a friend of mine about a planned camping trip for July/August she suggested I keep a journal of where we go and what we think of the place...DUH!?!?! why haven't I thought of this before!?! doesn't matter because here it is.
I will list each trip as a separate blog and write pros and cons about each place and rated on a scale of 1-10 if we'd go back 1 being NEVER AGAIN and 10 being WISH WE COULD LIVE THERE heehee! I will try to link the places websites so anyone reading these will know exactly where I mean. I also will include photos and anything else I can to help others understand why I felt the way I did about our camping experience.
